Child Protection Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective: 1 June 2026 · Review: June 2027
1. Our Commitment
A-Level Exam Mastery recognises that the welfare of every child and young person is paramount. We are committed to protecting children from harm, responding to any concern promptly and appropriately, and working with statutory agencies to ensure the safety of every student in our care.
2. Recognising Abuse
All A-Level Exam Mastery facilitators and staff are trained to recognise the indicators of abuse. These include but are not limited to:
Physical abuse: unexplained injuries, bruising, or fear of specific adults
Emotional abuse: persistent negative self-image, significant behaviour changes, withdrawal
Sexual abuse: inappropriate sexual knowledge or behaviour, disclosure of sexual contact
Neglect: poor hygiene, inadequate clothing, hunger, extreme tiredness
Online abuse: unsolicited sexual messages, manipulation by online contacts, distress after online activity
3. Responding to a Disclosure
If a student discloses abuse or expresses concern about their own safety during a session, facilitators are trained to:
Listen calmly and without judgement
Not promise confidentiality
Not ask leading questions
Record the disclosure in writing as soon as practicable
Report to the DSL immediately — within 1 hour of the session end
4. Referral Procedure
The DSL will assess each concern and determine the appropriate response. This may include:
Internal monitoring and support
Referral to the local authority children's services in the student's country of residence
Contact with the police if a crime may have been committed
Report to the NSPCC (England and Wales) or equivalent authority in the student's jurisdiction
All referrals are documented. The outcome of every referral is recorded.
5. Allegations Against Staff or Facilitators
Any allegation made against a facilitator, staff member, or volunteer will be:
Reported to the DSL immediately
Subject to immediate suspension of the individual pending investigation
Referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) in England, or equivalent authority
Investigated in accordance with our disciplinary procedure
The safety of the student takes precedence in all cases. No allegation is considered too minor to investigate.
